Gemma is a fully qualified teacher of Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz and National Dance and is principal of her own thriving school in Swindon: The Gemma Short School of Dance & Theatre Arts. Students can be found currently performing in the West End, as well as having successfully gained places in full time vocational training with full scholarships.
Gemma trained in Swindon and enjoyed experiences such as competing at regional festivals, the Janet Cram Awards (modern), Marjorie Davies Awards (tap), Imperial Ballet Awards and Grandison Clark Awards (national), and the All England Finals. Gemma gained a full scholarship to London Studio Centre, however chose to pursue her professional teacher training. She has taught full-time or as a guest teacher for a number of dance schools, including: Annette Adams in Bristol, The Sue Taylor Dance Academy in Banbury, Wootton Bassett School of Dance, St Hughes School in Oxford, and the Judith Hockaday School and College.
Gemma is also an experienced performed and has enjoyed playing principal roles including Lina Lamont in ‘Singin’ in the Rain,’ Babette in ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and Irene in ‘Crazy For You’. As well as performing, Gemma is an experienced choreographer; she has staged many productions for performing arts groups in Swindon, as well as regularly choreographing for her students for competitive festivals or guest performances.
Gemma is delighted to be a guest teacher for the Wilkes Academy 16+ vocational course.
