
Year 1, 2, 3
Year 1 is an introduction to the three main disciplines, this gives students the foundation needed in this most competitive of industries.
Our first year gives us the opportunity to assess each student and begin to develop their programme for their time with us.
We aim to challenge our students physically and mentally from the start of the course and we encourage them to have and open and truthful approach to all classes whilst maintaining our high level of discipline and respect.
Classes include: Ballet, Technical Jazz, Tap, Musical Theatre, Commercial, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern, Gymnastics, Acting, Voice, Singing
Specialist classes include: One to one singing tuition, One to one acting tuition, Acting through song, Aerial art (includes silks, hoops and trapeze), Boys only ballet, Pas de deux, Nutrition, Make-Up, TV Presenting.
As with all three years at Wilkes Academy there are numerous performance opportunities.
Year 2 gives the students a chance to build upon the foundations set in year 1, improving technique, strength and knowledge in all aspects of the course.
Throughout the year the student will have their progression monitored and extensive feedback will be given. Self-assessment and peer assessment is also encouraged.
More time is given over to preparing for the practicalities of preparing for the industry and more performance opportunities are available.

Year 3’s main objective is to have each of our students leave fully prepared for the industry. The students will build up a repertoire of performance material and emphasis is given over to audition technique in all aspects of the profession.
With one eye on the ever-changing industry we are always looking at what are the latest requirements; this is why in third year the students have the opportunity to learn aerial skills, such as silks and hoops.
We are fortunate to have a large number of visiting directors, musical directors, choreographers, artists and casting directors all passing on advice and placing our students at the forefront for job opportunities.
